The meteoric rise of Singapore to become a major player as a member of the famous four Asian tigers, along with the other cities, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Tokyo, is due in no small measure to the defining characteristics of this small island city state, which is a harmonious and productive blend of eastern and western influences. The starting point of this success is however entirely natural and all to do with its location.

Situated just south of the Malay peninsula, it is an island city state located where seas meet and where ancient trade routes have been forged. First came the Chinese, Indian and Arab traders which turned Singapore into a significant trading post in the South China Seas, however it was during the 19th century when the city state realized its full potential as the oriental center of the British empire.

The central business district is awash with striking testaments to post modern architecture, housing some remarkable luxury hotels. While colonial style buildings remain in the heart of the city, a stunning example being the Fullerton Hotel, many of the modern 5 star Singapore hotels have grown in tandem with the city itself and portray a confident contemporary cityscape.

The modern hotels are mindful of the need for many clients to conduct business in the city and are particularly tailored for business travelers. Almost certainly containing a dedicated business center open 24 hours, these hotels will offer a range of business facilities and services which will include workstations and computers and mobile phones for hire. Also included will be copying, printing, and fax facilities and services which will include secretarial, translation and courier assistance.

Although business is clearly important in the city, the best hotels also provide a whole range of luxury leisure facilities. Within each room or suite, guests will find the very best in soft furnishings and decorative touches, spacious luxury bathrooms equipped with fine toiletries, and entertainment options provided by state of the art audio and visual systems. Air conditioning comes as standard as does 24 hour room and concierge services.

If the ultra modern hotels are ideal for business travelers to the city then the boutique hotels are aimed at people who prefer a more individual and unique Singapore experience. They too will have all the latest technology for business and pleasure but the ambience and environment will have a distinctive character all of its own. Often with more pronounced ethnic features indicative of South East Asia, or resplendent in a true colonial style, boutique hotels offer a superb stay in which the hotel forms as much a part of the appeal as any of the city's boundless attractions.

Leisure options incorporated within 5 star hotels will be extensive. Although some older and boutique hotels may be limited by space. Guest should expect the opportunities to work out in a fully equipped fitness suite, be pampered in a spa and well-being facility and enjoy a refreshing dip in the pool.

There exists a wide selection of dining environments, serving local specialities and wider gastronomic delights. Indian and Chinese cuisine is of course popular and incorporates Malay, Tamil and European influences too. The result is a city which enjoys a great reputation for fine cuisine and where dining and eating out are very much part of the unique cultural experience of Singapore.

5 star hotels anywhere in the world must meet a minimum high standard of facilities and services and within these properties the universal star standard is effortlessly achieved and often surpassed. From the moment a guest enters the building until they bid farewell, they will be met with the kind of personal attention to detail that makes a great stay truly special. Singapore has gained a deserved reputation for service and hospitality and this is no more evident than in the 5 star hotels.
